Episode 19: Healing emotional eating & binge eating with keto + emotional / mindset work with Liza Manouselis
Today's show is so special because I am welcoming Liza Manouselis as my first guest on the podcast!Liza has had an incredible story of triumph when it comes to her emotional and binge eating (BE) past. In today's interview she talks about how unresolved traumas can contribute to BE and the steps she took (both food related and non-food related) to help her recover from BE. Ali Shapiro's website: https://alishapiro.com/Liza's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bravelyblossoming/Liza's post on the Emotion Wheel we discussed: https://www.instagram.com/p/B-h5t0WDEa2/And here is Liza's recipe for her Keto Indian-style Chicken:1-2lbs Chicken thighs2 tablespoons of gheeAdd ghee to pan, and cook chicken all the way through. Then put the following item in a blender/food processor until contents are smoothie consistency:3 large tomatoes1 yellow onion1/4 cup chopped ginger3+ cloves garlic (I like to add more)1 tbl Garam masala spice1 tbl garlic powder1 tbl onion powderSalt + pepper to tasteOnce the chicken in cooked, pour the mix over the chicken, turn up the heat, and bring contents to a boil. Let it sit at a boil for a short period of time, then bring the heat back down and simmer. Add a can of coconut cream here. Allow the contents to reduce to your liking. GARNISH with lots of yummy cilantro. Keto/low carb side dish suggestion: Cauliflower rice, with green peas. Add turmeric and ghee.Thank you so much for listening and for your support! Episode 16: Q&A - Best Immune Boosters; Toxic Foods They Market as Health; Solution for being always thirsty
I'm a day late but I'm back with another Q&A episode of the podcast! This week I'm focusing on what I'm doing to stay healthy (including mental health!!) during this pandemic/quarantine.I also go over some foods that have been touted as being really healthy but in my opinion, don't hold up.Here's the Canola Oil video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cfk2IXlZdbI (gross!)Another question I got was about being constantly thirsty and not having thirst quenched by water. While this is a symptom of Diabetes, there are some things we can do to improve our hydration. Here's the link to my FullScript Store if you want to buy electrolytes or other high-quality supplements at a 10% discount. https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/danielledurantehealthAnd last but not least, please leave a quick 5-star rating for the show on Apple Podcasts or iTunes as it helps others find the show! Episode 15: 11 Holistic Tips for Improving your Immune System + Tips for Binge or Emotional Eating during Stress from COVID-19
In this special edition of the podcast, I discuss some of my best tips for improving your immune system. It is a better time than ever to really take care of your immune system. To do that, we can't just take Vitamin C and think we are good to go! We need to adjust our diet and lifestyle by removing inflammatory and irritating foods & substances, and also adding in healing, nutrient-rich foods and supplements along with critical lifestyle pieces like sleep, stress management and movement.Over the past few days, many of my clients and Instagram followers have been reporting that they have been emotionally eating more than usual. And I have been too! It's a difficult time and it's important to forgive ourselves and not shame or guilt ourselves for how we are responding to this increase in anxiety and fear. Here is the body scan meditation that I have really been enjoying over the past several days: https://open.spotify.com/track/7DtlWpQFHLKSfyy3mKr8Sg?si=_WOE4I2UTlWfQVYg8FxsywPlease remember to rate and review the show! And here are the links for submitting questions and for staying in touch! Episode 12: Part I - The path to avoiding Type II Diabetes: Signs your blood sugar is dysregulated
This is the first episode in a two part series all about Diabetes. About half of the adults in the United States have Prediabetes or Diabetes, but about a quarter of those individuals don't know they have it!How can this be?! It's not the fault of the individuals; we have a broken system. My goal is to help you learn what having dysregulated blood sugar feels like and looks like so then you can start taking steps to improve your blood sugar and insulin levels. Blood sugar is a spectrum. One one end we have regulated blood sugar and on the other, type II Diabetes. Diabetes is completely preventable (and it is reversible too!). Preventing it is easier than reversing it though. Tune in to today's show to learn to identify the signs so your blood sugar can stay or return to healthy levels instead of advancing toward Diabetes. I also discuss why it's so important to avoid getting Diabetes. It's my understanding that most people don't know what the consequences of having diabetes is. Did you know that Diabetes is the lead cause of blindness and kidney disease in adults? Did you know that even having prediabetes increases your risk of having cardiovascular disease, stroke, and dementia?! This is some serious stuff. My top goal is to help all of you understand why blood sugar regulation is so important, how to recognize the signs, AND how to test for it and begin to improve it (which we will cover in Part II of this series). Thanks so much for listening! Please be sure to subscribe to the show & leave a rating (and a review if you are so inclined!) It helps others find the show.Every Friday I do a Q&A episode. Please submit all questions to me via Instagram, facebook or my website.
