002: Ancient medicine for modern health: what is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Whitney Bird, or Auntie Whitney as she’s known as to many, is an acupuncturist, healer, and truly remarkable human being. She received both her Masters and Doctorate in the medicine indigenous to the people of China (otherwise known as Traditional Chinese Medicine) from the  American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine at CIIS (one of the top acupuncture schools in the nation). She has since apprenticed at length under brilliant TCM doctors such as Raymond Himmel and Danny Geren. She’s licensed by the California Acupuncture Board and nationally certified by NCCAOM for acupuncture and herbal medicine. She’s the type of practitioner who is “enthusiastic” about Traditional Chinese Medicine (to say the least), she meets with all types of clients (but has an extra “zest” for pediatrics) and she leverages all modalities of TCM in her practice (which we will dive into in today’s episode!)! She volunteers with Integrative Healers Action Network, Acupuncture without Borders, and works with the Paradigm Treatment Centers. She’s a huge proponent of social health (something we deeply value here at Mira Wellness!) and has some incredible perspectives into the power of community for healing (both emotionally, spiritually, and socially). When not treating patients she can be found outside birding, biking, hiking, sailing, or foraging herbs with her adorable pup, Pippin, or her adventurous cat, The Doctor.  💫 We cover:  What is Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture + what are some of the healing techniques used Talk about career pivot’s and how Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture is Whitney’s 3rd career How Chinese Medicine views the body, healing, and how emotions are related to disease Whitney’s perspective on integrating both allopathic (Western) and Eastern medicine like TCM Whitney’s experience with Grave’s disease and Hashimoto’s disease & how she navigated this experience physically, how she’s integrated both Western/TCM for healing, and how it’s influenced her career path The importance of removing ego from the practice of medicine Kasia shares her own personal journey with panic attacks, severe eczema, anxiety, and how healing included both mind (therapy) and body (acupuncture) for healing 💫 Mentioned in this episode:  Stat’s on loneliness: “...new report suggests that 36% of all Americans—including 61% of young adults and 51% of mothers with young children—feel “serious loneliness.” Not surprisingly, loneliness appears to have increased substantially since the outbreak of the global pandemic. “  (https://mcc.gse.harvard.edu/reports/loneliness-in-america)  Integrated Healers Action Network: https://www.integrativehealersactionnetwork.org/  Acupuncturists without borders: https://acuwithoutborders.org/ Paradigm Treatment Centers: https://paradigmtreatment.com/  💫 To connect with Whitney: @qi_bird (Instagram) www.whitneybirdacupuncture.com

001: Coming out of the Psychedelic Closet in Corporate America

Startup executive, former Microsoft product lead, psychedelic advocate, father, husband, and champion of “radically transparent spirituality”, Sébastien Fouillade is a modern anomaly. Although his 26+ years of experience and his portfolio of tech, product development, and leadership successes are impressive, it’s the openness and authenticity with which Sébastien balances both his spiritual side with his ambitious achievements that sets him apart. Though Sébastien had his first “out of body awakening” in 2011, he only officially “came out of the spiritual closet” recently (in 2019); confronting the stigma associated with psychedelics head on. Since then Sébastien has boldly redefined inclusion in the workplace; challenging cultural norms around how to successfully interweave your spiritual life with your work life. Today, Sébastien works at the forefront of tech and psychedelics. He’s the Chief Journey Officer at Dvija Psychedelics, an advisor for Fraqtal, and a founder for a new Stealth startup in the Psychedelics space. In addition to his startup portfolio he’s the host of Leadershipadelics (a top psychedelic podcast that interviews world class entrepreneurs and leaders who have had impactful experiences with psychedelics) where he’s a powerful advocate for spiritual sovereignty; encouraging everyone to be authentic in sharing their own life path.  💫  We cover: Trust + surrender Sébastien's spiritual journey: from breath-work to experiences with psychedelics The importance of authenticity What it's like hitting stigma head on when he "came out of the spiritual closet" How misalignment can lead to disease How to balance your own needs with responsibilities + the needs of your family 💫 To connect with Sébastien: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sebastienfouillade/  http://www.fooyad.com http://www.leadershipedelics.com 💫  Mentioned in this episode: The Surrender Experiment (book) by Michael Singer How to Change your mind by Michael Pollan The Medicin Podcast Sean McCormick Life Coaching

000: The Other Way, welcome!

Hello and welcome to The Other Way, a lifestyle podcast that explores uncommon, unconventional, or otherwise alternative approaches to life, business, and health. I’m your host, Kasia; I’m a founder and mindfulness practitioner on a mission to harmonize “being” with “doing”, and discover my most authentic and aligned self along the way. Now, in my experience, stepping into that kind of alignment often requires us to take the path less traveled. On this podcast, I explore those paths. Here, you can expect real, raw conversations with founders, researchers, trailblazers, experts in medicine, spiritual teachers, and all-around inspiring humans on the journey of doing things our way. It may not be “the way,” but it is the other way. So, if you’re like us and feel called to listen to that deeper voice - you’re in the right place. Welcome.
