4 Elements Of A Successful Online Nutrition Business
Having all or some of your nutrition business running online has never been more important! Whether yours is already running on the internet or you’re thinking about starting one, this episode is about the 4 elements of online business you need to know. 4 Elements Of A Successful Online Nutrition Business When you’re ready to get your business online, there are four key elements that you need to put your energy in to have the success you want. Because if your business isn’t successful, however, you define that, you just have an expensive hobby! Every single business has to solve a problem. For a nutrition business, the problem you’re solving is in health, regardless of how you’re solving that problem. So how do you tell people what problem you’re solving? By sending traffic to your business. Traffic is the people who find your business online (or if you have a brick and mortar establishment, the people who walk past your shop). By using social media and your website, you’re creating part of the sales process! You can also get traffic through word-of-mouth, that’s past clients recommending you - one of the most valuable methods of getting new business! When your traffic lands on where you want them to be, you need to give them something in order to make them a lead. A lead is someone who has either picked up your free or low-cost offer. You can now engage your leads with direct response marketing and with a sales plan that turns your leads into clients. Now you need to have a sales process in place to actually turn those leads into paying clients. There are so many ways to make a sale to your potential customers, but my favorite and the one I recommend for nutrition businesses that are starting out is the discovery call. Yes, these are sales calls, but before you make the sale, you need to determine if your services are a good fit for this lead. When you’re first starting out with your online nutrition business, I believe you should offer one-to-one coaching. But, I will also say that your business will hit a limit with how much income you can receive from this method. If you’re okay with hitting that income limit, that’s perfectly okay, but if you’re ready for more… You will find that some people can’t afford your services, and that’s okay, but there’s only so much you can raise your prices before you literally price yourself out of the market. This is where offering products, along with your services, comes in beneficial as well as starting group coaching programs. Group coaching lets you work with multiple people at the same time, but you definitely need to be confident in your coaching methods to have true success here. Are you ready to start or scale your online coaching business? What’s the next step you need to take? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Leave me a voice message here! In This Episode Why every single business has to solve a problem What the role of social media and websites have in directing traffic to your business is How word of mouth is one of the most valuable methods of getting business What direct response marketing is How to grow your leads when you have an online business How to nurture a lead into a customer What the role of a discovery/sales call is What the limits of one-to-one coaching are Why it’s okay for people to tell you your services are too expensive What the benefits of having a group program are Quotes “If you don’t have any traffic to your business, it’s pretty much impossible to grow a business. You don’t need tons of traffic, millions of viewers on your website, or thousands of followers on social media to get good traffic, you just need a clear message and clear value from what you’re sharing and an ability to build your know-like-trust factor with that traffic.” (19:07) “If you want to have a successful business you have to have an effective conversion strategy.” (27:32) “Most of the time, what you teach in an online program is going to come from something you’ve learned from working with people one on one.” (39:59) Links Sign up for James Wedmore's Business By Design video series! How Emily Got Her Period And Her Freedom Back
Undereating and overexercising can lead to amenorrhea, which means you lose your period. I’ve worked with so many women to help them reclaim their period with my Get Your Period Back program. In this episode, I’m joined by Emily Morello who has gone through the program to successfully get her period back. A Case Study with Emily Morello It’s not often I record a case study episode with a fellow podcaster, but I’m delighted to share this one with Emily Morello. Emily is a blogger and podcaster who talks about finding life’s purpose. She joined my Get Your Period Back program last year and we’ve been working together in this group environment to help Emily regain her period. Emily explains what some of the fears she had before investing in the Get Your Period Back program. Part of her fears was financially based while others were towards the lifestyle changes that she knew she’d need to make. We talk about the reason the Get Your Period Back program was set at a higher price point than many other health and wellness programs. By making a higher financial investment, you’re more likely to stay committed to finishing the program. I’ve found that is the case with this program, as well, and success stories like Emily’s are evidence. Being present and in the moment of where you are is one of the mindset shifts that all my program participants have to do. When we’re focusing on the here and now, we’re not thinking about what will happen in the future. By keeping our minds here, we realize what we need to do at that moment and that moment alone. Emily shares how she has gone through many different learning curves throughout the Get Your Period Back program. First, she had to change her food and exercise habits - more food, less exercise - and accept that this change is safe and okay to make. In fact, for Emily, she had to completely stop exercising at the beginning of the program, due to an old injury that kept flaring up. Emily has also learned that when she’s feeling stressed, she will fall back into her old habits of exercising more. But what she’s found is that she recognizes when she falls into this routine. Now that she has the knowledge to work her way out of it, she doesn’t perpetuate that unhealthy cycle. Emily also explains how the Get Your Period Back program helped her stop binge eating, among other less desirable habits. By learning what her body actually craves, what makes her feel good, and how to eat for her best health, Emily has been able to make much more conscious decisions when it comes to her diet. How many days a week are you exercising? Do you know how many calories you’re consuming? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Leave me a voice message here! In This Episode What some of the fears are when considering starting a group program Why the Get Your Period Back program is a higher financial investment What happens when you’re present in the journey that you’re on How your body and mind will have many learning curves when working to get your period back How the Get Your Period Back program can help you stop binge eating Quotes “This is an investment in your health. It was something I was willing to do, but it really took me trying to tone back my anxiety to realize that I was worth the commitment.” (18:38) “I realized I did not need exercise to be happy. Then I realized that my exercise addiction and disordered eating were a coping mechanism to get over things that I was struggling with.” (25:13) “I don’t know if I didn’t go through this program of getting my period back that I would have been so rigid with everything else going on, with my exercise and all that. Now, I add space for what I think is important.” (47:16) Links Find Emily Morello Online Follow Emily Morello on Instagram | Facebook Join the Free Workshop: How to Get a Regular Period Without Birth Control Find Fed and Fearless Online Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Intuitive Eating for Christians with Char-Lee Cassel
Intuitive eating is a hot concept in the health and wellness industries right now. The health at any size communities are warring against diet culture, but the question we have is - is intuitive eating possible for Christian women? Char-Lee Cassel, who is a Christian dietician, joins me to discuss this. How to eat intuitively from a Christian perspective Char-Lee Cassel is a registered dietician nutritionist who focuses on intuitive eating from a Christian perspective. Char-Lee realized that she couldn’t be an entrepreneur and help women with their diet and nutrition without embracing and sharing the Word. She uses a Biblical model of health and wellness to guide women back to eating and moving in the way God created them. Char-Lee and I agree that without the Word, intuitive eating, and eating for health in general, falls flat. God gives us purpose. By treating our bodies with respect, we are honoring them the way God intended. While some people in the wellness industry might think that intuitive eating is not the best way to eat, Char-Lee explains why it’s actually aligned with Christian values. She encourages us to listen to the needs of our bodies and to fill them with healthy foods. When we eat well and treat our bodies with love and kindness, we are keeping our own temples clean and healthy. How does spiritual fasting intersect with intuitive eating? Especially given that many women approach intuitive eating from a past of disordered eating, this can be tough. But Char-Lee shares that so long as someone is far enough along in their eating disorder recovery, undertaking a spiritual fast can still be an okay thing to do. We also talk about other ways to participate in a spiritual fast that don’t involve food. Fasting should be a regular part of your spiritual practice as the purpose is to make you more mindful of how you connect with God. Finally, Char-Lee talks about why diet culture attracts so many Christian women. Diet culture as a whole is incredibly toxic and takes us away from our relationship with God. This is another reason why she advocates about intuitive eating as it’s more in line with Christian values. Have you participated in a spiritual fast before? How can you align your eating habits with your Christian values? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Leave me a voice message here! In This Episode How intuitive eating rules fall flat without the Word Why intuitive eating is aligned with Christian values Where spiritual fasting intersects with intuitive eating Why you’re not in control of the outcome of the way you eat Why women are attracted to diet culture Quotes “Being attuned to the Holy Spirit is a huge part of being attuned to your body and being able to make decisions that honor your tastebuds, your preferences, and also your physical health.” (10:49) “I think that fasting is really important. But I don’t think that it has to be food. I think it can be food, though, even if you are an intuitive eater.” (24:19) “We try not to deny our hunger. We try to honor our hunger. I believe that God gave us hunger signals for a reason, he wants us to fuel ourselves to be able to do his work. But spiritual fasting is a biblical principle. It’s something that we’re called to do. I think if your heart is right and you’re removed from diet culture, I don’t see that there’s anything wrong with that as an intuitive eater.” (36:14) Links Find Char-Lee Cassel Online Follow Char-Lee Cassel on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest Book your Functional Nutrition Strategy Session with Me Find Fed and Fearless Online Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? How To Get Motivated Again
If you’re feeling a lack of motivation to get anything done right now, you’re not alone. I am definitely feeling that lack of motivation to stay focused on work, too. Some tasks need to get done, though, so I’ve put together a list of 5 steps to take to get motivated when you’re just not feeling it. How to get motivated when you have a lack of motivation Motivation is a myth. Most people don’t get up every morning ready to get to tackle their to-do list. Yes, spurs of motivation are possible and do happen, but for the most part, people train themselves to get stuff done. That’s why you can’t rely on motivation to be the force behind what you actually want to accomplish. The first thing you can do to get motivated is to figure out why you need to do something. By recognizing the reason behind the task, for example, you’ll feel good after exercising or a product launch will bring you more money, you’re more likely to do it. Next, focus on simply getting started. You don’t need to create a masterpiece when you’re feeling unmotivated. Sometimes even the act of doing the task will be enough to jolt you into action. As one of the most easily distracted people out there, I know what it’s like to lose your concentration when working on something you don’t love. That’s why it’s so important to create a distraction-free zone to work in. Plus, you can use aids like the Freedom App to even keep digital distractions at bay. If it’s at all possible, try to make the task fun. Play your favorite music, take dance breaks, or even make it a game. Not possible? Give yourself something to look forward to after completing what you’re struggling with. Finally, if you can’t get yourself motivated at all, you need to examine and explore why that is. Is there a mental block preventing you from carrying out the work? Why does it cause you discomfort and create a lack of self-confidence? When you explore the reasoning behind why you’re struggling, you’ll hopefully be able to move forward in motivation. Are you struggling with a lack of motivation? What would make your tasks more fun? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Leave me a voice message here! In This Episode Why motivation is a myth Why you can’t rely on motivation to spur you forward What happens when you recognize “the why” behind why you want or need to do something How to take imperfect action and reduce the barriers to achieving your task Why you should create a distraction-free work zone How making an activity fun can make it easier to do What you can do to work through the discomfort and a lack of self-confidence around why you’re struggling to do something Quotes “If we’re going to achieve the things we want to achieve in life, there are going to be times where we have to take action in spite of a lack of motivation.” (6:34) “Doing it will actually start to build momentum towards bigger action. So, identify a small action step that you can easily take and then just do it.” (26:23) “Figuring out the emotional reason behind why you’re so hesitant to do something is so important. Because if you’re going to move past that, you have to deal with that emotional challenge so you can free yourself up to do the thing that you want to do.” (48:02) Links Book your Functional Nutrition Strategy Session with Me Find Fed and Fearless Online Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? How Rachael Gave Up Fad Diets And Got Her Period Back
This episode of Fed and Fearless is with Rachael E who took my “Get Your Period Back” program. We’re talking about the success Rachael had within weeks to get her period back by making healthy changes to her diet and exercise routine. A Case Study with Rachael E Rachael describes what it was like when she didn’t have her period. From her irritability to her body demanding comfort food, Rachael didn’t feel connected with the woman she was. But despite seeking medical advice, who only advised to go on artificial estrogen, Rachael didn’t know how to improve her health situation. Rachael can see now that she had developed an unhealthy obsession with eating healthy and “clean”. What started as listening to a few podcasts about low-carb diets turned into living on steaks. Coupled with going to the gym for an intense workout 5 or more days a week, Rachael was not getting the recovery or the nutrients her body so needed. When Rachael found the Get Your Period Back program, she decided to trust that this was the right move for her. We made changes to her diet and exercise gradually, which was one of the aspects Rachael was the most hesitant to change. Rachael explains some of the major benefits she received from doing group health coaching. These included drawing on the knowledge and experience of all the other women in the group. She talks through what some of the biggest mindset changes she had to develop over the course of Get Your Period Back. Rachael benefited from sharing these changes with the other group program members and receive that extra level of support. Rachael shares what it was like when she started dialing back on her level of training. Many women are afraid that when they don’t train as hard at the gym, they will lose what strength they’ve gained. However, it’s actually the opposite that happens! Less is more. Finally, Rachael talks about how changing her training and diet impacted more than just her health. She found that almost every aspect of her life transformed in some way or another. Rachael has found a new love and appreciation for her body and encourages us all to learn to listen to your body. Do you have an irregular period? How would you rate your diet and exercise routine? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Leave me a voice message here! In This Episode What happens when you don’t have your period How you can develop an obsession with eating healthy How a change doesn’t need to be drastic or extreme What it’s like doing a health coaching program online What the benefit of group coaching is What mindset changes the Get Your Period Back program brings What benefits you can see when you dial back your training How changes to your training and diet impact your entire life How to listen to your body Quotes “The only way I can explain it is really, it was kind of like a downward spiral. Because where I was, it wasn’t going to get better. And being unhappy and miserable, that’s not... That should be number one, being happy and having a sustainable life. And it was not going that way for me.” (13:34) “It’s so nice having other women going through the same problem. It’s nice to know you’re not alone.” (26:58) “For women who are looking to do online coaching or group coaching - I say go for it! As long as you know it’s a legitimate source and you know you’re not going to lose money through a scam… I think it’s great. I’m 100% on board with group coaching.” (46:21) Links Sign up for How To Get A Regular Period Without Birth Control Free Training Find Fed and Fearless Online Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Irregular or otherwise abnormal periods are commonly thought to be normal. But guess what, friends - they're not! Nicole Jardim joins me to talk about how we can all fix our periods. About Nicole Jardim Nicole is The Period Girl. She's a women's health coach who helps women in their 20's and 30's reclaim their hormone health naturally. From missed periods to heavy bleeding (more than 90mL a day), there are so many signs that something is wrong. Nicole talks about what hormonal causes can contribute to our period issues. We often talk about the role Cortisol plays in our bodies. It should be no surprise that it affects our periods, too. When Cortisol, the stress hormone, is high, we're more likely to have irregular periods. Have anyone ever asked you if you're on your period because of the way you're acting? You're not alone - so many women face this when their hormones fluctuate. But hormonal changes are completely normal - it's time to reframe the way we think about our hormones. Nicole recommends tracking your menstrual cycle at all times. Your mood, when and how much you bleed, and what your cervical fluid looks like. It all contributes to a picture of your total health. Tracking will also show when you're ovulating - something that is vital for a woman's health. Nicole explains what a normal menstrual cycle should look like. From how long it lasts to how much you should bleed, each detour from the norm can be a tell-tale sign of health problems. Nicole shares a few ways in which you can accurately track your menstrual cycle. What method will you use to track your menstrual cycle? How can you check in with your emotions during your period? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode What the first signs of a hormonal balance are What happens when our bodies have too much cortisol Why we need to reframe the way we think about hormones How tracking your menstrual cycle can indicate potential problems and give you insight into your overall health Why ovulation is so vital for women’s health What a normal menstrual cycle looks like Why you should check in with your emotions during the latter part of your period How to track your menstrual cycle and why you should be tracking all the time What patterns in our cervical fluid we should be noticing Quotes “We all have a different threshold for stress and it’s important for us to really check in with that. Body Acceptance and Body Change with Rachel Rae Garmon
In a world with so much fear or emphasis surrounding weight loss and diet culture, it’s hard to know what information is the “right” information. I’m joined by Rachel Rae Garmon to talk about the balance we can achieve between body acceptance and body change. About Rachel Rae Garmon Rachel is a communicator and educator working on her second (yes, second: her first is in communications!) Masters in clinical mental health counseling. Rachel is exploring the diet industry, body image, and how we can find that sought-after healthy balance. People tend to focus on weight loss for everyone or the body positivity movement. Rachel thinks it’s a very individual decision to make. It’s important to consider the reason and motivation behind why someone wants to lose weight. Rachel talks us through how we can start to reframe our mindset so we’re less focused on our body. Rachel is not saying that all weight loss is bad! She believes there are ways to approach losing weight that can be healthy and in line with your core values. We need to redefine the words we use. Diet has such a negative connotation when really, it’s simply the foods you consume on a daily basis. We agree that there needs to be a cultural reeducation around the language used in the health, wellness, fitness, and diet industries as a whole. Do you know what the best way to workout is? How can you reframe your mindset surrounding your body? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Leave me a voice message here! In This Episode Why wanting to lose weight is a very individual decision to make Why you need to explore the reasoning behind why you want to lose weight How to reframe your mindset to be less focused on your body What the best way to workout is Why saying “weight loss is bad” is not the answer Why we should redefine the words we use How we can reeducate our culture on what the meaning of “diet” actually is Quotes “What is the make-up of everything that’s going on, what is the person experiencing? It’s just not as simple as no one can ever want to lose weight or change their body. And it’s not as simple as weight loss equals health. Because neither of those are correct.” (13:36) “People need to recognize that their mental state is impacting their physiological state. The body holds onto things and remembers things that our minds tuck away.” (26:22) “People are going to disagree that you can never change your body from a healthy state. I don’t think that is correct. I think some people can. I think it depends on what’s at the core and why are they doing it.” (28:28) “What’s the best for this person that’s sitting in front of us and what do they need to really find healing and get to where they are going to feel good in their body?” (1:02:38) Links Find Rachel Rae Garmon Online Follow Rachel Rae Garmon on Instagram Book your Functional Nutrition Strategy Session with Me Find Fed and Fearless Online Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? How To Know If You're Ready for Fat Loss
Losing weight is a topic on so many people’s minds as a priority for them and their body. But did you know that if you have any of these 16 signs or symptoms, you should actually put your weight loss goals on hold while you figure out what’s going on with your health? Are You Ready for Fat Loss? In this episode of Fed and Fearless, I’m talking about the 16 signs and symptoms that mean you’re not ready for fat loss. Starting with feeling tired all the time. Like, fatigued, weary to your bones kind of tired! When you embark on a fat-loss mission, you’re going to be putting your body into an even more tired state, so don’t contribute to your fatigue if you’re already there. If you’re not sleeping properly and/or getting up in the night to pee, there’s probably something underlying going on that you should address before focusing on losing weight. Same if you feel cold more often than not as poor circulation can indicate something more substantial going on in your body. When you’re ready to lose weight, your mental health should also be good, as lower calories can negatively impact your thoughts. The term ‘hangry’ exists for a reason and if you’re already in a fragile mental state, lowering your calories can be devastating. Not having your period is also a sign that your body isn’t in the right state for weight loss. This could mean that you’re already over-exercising or under-eating. And similarly, if you have symptoms related to your thyroid function, you should absolutely get these checked out before starting a fat-loss protocol. If you have a regular exercise routine, you need to make sure that your recovery supports your body and all your fat-loss efforts. I talk about quite a few different aspects of your recovery and injury prevention to think about before deciding anything about your weight-loss. Losing your sex drive is another big sign that you’re not ready for weight loss, too. Finally, did you know that, despite some information out there, you absolutely and in no uncertain terms should be trying to lose weight while you’re pregnant, even if you’re already overweight? This is highly detrimental to yours and your baby’s health! Did you find that you have some of these signs or symptoms? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode What the 16 signs and symptoms are that means you’re not ready for fat loss How a weight-loss protocol can contribute to feelings of fatigue Why poor sleep can increase your body fat What it means if you’re cold all the time Why your mental health should be good in order to embark on a fat-loss journey What your period can indicate regarding your weight-loss journey Why you need to focus on your thyroid health before dealing with fat-loss How your exercise recovery protocol can actually mean you’re not ready for weight-loss How dieting and weight-loss can negatively impact your sex drive Why you shouldn’t try to lose weight while you’re pregnant Quotes “If you’re feeling that fatigue on a day-to-day basis, you don’t want to be putting energy into an intentional fat-loss protocol because you will most likely experience a worsening of that fatigue.” (8:30) “If you are someone who’s waking up more than once a night to pee, or if you wake up to pee and you can’t fall back asleep after getting up to go to the bathroom, you may need to focus on eating more for a while and really getting that symptom under control.” (16:28) “By focusing on your health first and really maximizing your health, you’re actually putting your body at a better place to be able to lose body fat and preparing your metabolism for a short-term calorie deficit so you can really get into a place where you are burning extra body fat.” (33:07) Links Book your Functional Nutrition Strategy Session with Me Running an online health business? Pressing Reset with Dani Almeyda
Community, confidence, and learning to be comfortable being uncomfortable are all values we should learn and embrace as we age. Creating a safe place to encourage people to combine faith and exercise is something Dani Almeyda, co-founder of Original Strength, is immensely proud of. CREATING A SAFE SPACE There seems to be this unwritten rule that as we age, we believe we’re no longer capable of having a base level of fitness, ability, and strength. That’s simply not true! Dani has designed a fitness atmosphere and method that encourages relearning and resetting our movement, breathing, and in turn, mindset. Dani explains what happens to our bodies when we learn how to actually breathe properly. Your body and mind become much more in sync and in tune. She also tells us how you can use the same techniques she teaches at Original Strength to help reset any stressful moments in your life. It all comes down to the breath. The other element of training that’s important to Dani is creating a loving and comfortable community and environment for women to learn in. When we feel loved and supported, we’re more likely to be more adventurous, be happier, and try new movements. But above all, Dani embodies a Christian spirit in everything she does at Original Strength. She believes that a person’s original strength comes from God and that it’s possible for all of us to regain this strength of body and of soul. This is what her women’s communities have at their heart - a calling to speak and express ourselves as God’s true wonder and beauty. Dani encourages women to find a community of girlfriends they’re comfortable learning and growing with. She also thinks we should all practice being uncomfortable as there are so many situations in our lives where we will experience this. When was the last time you tried something and struggled at it? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? Leave me a voice message here! In This Episode Why getting older is no excuse for losing strength and ability What happens when you learn to breathe properly How you can press reset on any stressful moments in your life What happens when you feel loved and comfortable How community can encourage you to try new movements Where your original strength comes from Why women need a community of girlfriends they feel comfortable with Why you should practice being uncomfortable Quotes “We try to plant these seeds of hope in every single time we’re with somebody. Hope feels good. Giving and helping people see, understand, and feel hopeful is a really good way to get them more comfortable in exploring their relationship with God.” (23:06) “Being relatable is important. If people can’t relate to you and you can’t be vulnerable enough to share your own life, struggles, failures, and what you learned then it makes it really hard to create relationships that are meaningful.” (34:40) “Getting comfortable being uncomfortable will make you so much stronger at everything in life because you’re always going to have uncomfortable situations. So if you know how to move through the discomfort, you get really comfortable being uncomfortable.” (45:21) Links Find Dani Almeyda Online Follow Dani Almeyda on Instagram Follow Original Strength on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube Join my Free Webinar: How To Get A Regular Period Without Birth Control Find Fed and Fearless Online Got a question you’d love to hear me answer on the show? The Grey Area of Fat Loss Goals with Lucia Hawley, NTP
With all the stigma surrounding diet culture, diets, and ethics, it can be difficult to know how to approach weight loss with your clients. Luckily, there are women out there like Lucia Hawley who take an ethical approach to healthy, sustainable, and long-term weight loss. Healthy Fat-Loss Lucia explains how she works with her clients on more than just mindset in order to truly have weight loss success. The approach she takes looks at mindset, underlying health problems, and disconnecting from diet culture and previously held beliefs in order to reframe thoughts. The best tip Lucia has for sustainable weight loss is consistency. Consistently taking steps to lose weight, while also recognizing that there might be periods where following the diet principles don’t align with your personal values are also okay. Lucia says that she encourages her clients to reframe their mindset around setting and reaching the goals they want because when they do this, they’re more likely to be successful. This approach can be useful for more than just weight loss goals as well! Lucia is also a big proponent of self-talk and using this technique as a way to reframe how we think about what we want and what we’re doing. By practicing self-talk, we can actually start to understand how and why we’re behaving and reacting in the ways that we are. But diets actually appeal to people for so many reasons. It’s that “shiny, new toy” syndrome that so many of us experience combined with the initial response in weight loss by our body. However, this response is unlikely to last long-term unless we alter our mindset about health, wellbeing, and weight-loss. Lucia says that we need to treat ourselves the way we treat other people, with love and compassion, rather than the criticism that’s so much more common. When we start treating ourselves kindly, we can see other motivators for weight loss, because, let’s face it, shame is not a viable weight-loss tactic. What kind of decisions and habits can you make today that will allow you to reach the goal that you eventually want to reach? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode Why solely doing mindset work might not solve what’s going on in your body if you have a gut problem How you can truly disconnect from diet culture Why you should focus on consistency when it comes to losing weight How you can reframe your mindset around setting and reaching your goals for maximum success What self-talk is and what role it has in reframing how we think about what we want Why diets appeal to so many people What happens when you treat yourself with the love and compassion you show other people What some of the other motivators are you can use to start losing weight Quotes “For people who are starting to step out of being immersed in diet culture without consent, it’s just this world we’ve grown up in and when we’re stepping out of it, I think we have to make space to have conversations around things like fat loss, body image, and body composition without feeling like we have to swing from one extreme to another.” (21:14) “No matter what we do - period - in business and in life, our actions are always going to trigger other people. It’s up to them whether they want to share that with us.” (29:34) “Self-talk in terms of appetite, to me, just means that we have to recognize the stories we’re telling ourselves, respect the fact where those come from, and then hold our own hands.” (46:38) “Once you have the gameplan, it’s about being present with experiences and trusting the process.” (55:54) Links Find Lucia Hawley Online Listen to The Devoured Podcast Follow Lucia Hawley on Instagram | Facebook Running an online health business?
