Shared Care - A guide from Wessex LMCs

Shared care is a term used within the NHS to describe the situation where a specialist doctor wishes to pass some of the patient’s care, such as prescription of medication, over to their general practitioner (GP). This is something that can be requested but the guidance for all medications is that this may only be done if the GP agrees. The GP will need to consider a number of factors to decide if this is safe. Shared care is an important aspect of care that we are hearing from practices is causing increased tension and pressure at present. Dr Laura Edwards, CEO, and Dr Will Howard, Medical Director, bring us up to speed on Wessex LMCs guidance which you can find here: https://www.wessexlmcs.com/understanding-shared-care-nhs-right-to-choose-and-private-providers/

Call to GP Practices to get Onboard Wessex Healthier Together

The Wessex Healthier Together website provides advice for parents, young people and pregnant women, and clinical resources to support healthcare professionals – which means that children are likely to receive consistently high-quality care, irrespective of which healthcare professional they see. Sanjay Patel, Paediatrics Infectious Diseases Consultant at Southampton Children's hospital who leads the Healthier Together programme, joins us to discuss the resources available in further detail to help change parental help seeking behaviour. The Healthier Together app aims to change the health-seeking behaviour of parents by providing them with the tools to evaluate the severity of their child’s illness when they are poorly. Only by your practice formally onboarding will your patients have full access to the functionality of the app. We encourage practices to get onboard before the rise in winter respiratory viruses. If you have any queries or require further support to onboard, please contact ahmadc@cenigma.net https://www.healthiertogether.nhs.uk/
