Could This New Ring Be The Final Frontier In Self Quantification, Biohacking, Sleep Tracking, HRV, Respiration & More?
BenGreenfieldFitness.com/oura This is a Premium podcast and is available - along with a protected vault of over 300 other audio episode, insider interviews, secret videos and downloadable .pdf's from the BenGreenfieldFitness show - when you click here to go Premium for just $9.99 for the entire year. Enjoy! In an article I wrote 2 years ago about the "Top 10 Lessons Learned at Dave Asprey’s Bulletproof Biohacking Conference", I jokingly quipped that... "...here at the biohacking conference, I’ve seen a little bit of everything, but ultimately, we still need one device to rule them all – a la Tolkien’s magical ring. In other words, we need one simple wearable unit to be designed that 24-7 tracks heart rate variability, heart rate, pulse oximetry, global positioning, sleep, steps taken, calories burned, respiration, perspiration and skin temperature." So I was understandably a bit excited when I discovered this Kickstarter page for the new ŌURA ring. This small, stylish ring uses state-of-the-art miniaturized electronics to track and measure a host of parameters, including sleep, heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), activity, body temperature, movement, respiration, and more. In today's podcast, I interview the Co-Founder and CEO of ŌURA ring: Petteri Lahtela. Petteri is a serial entrepreneur with 20+ years experience in creating market-leading high-tech products as well as building international businesses and market entries in dozens of countries. He has experience and expertise in Mobile telecoms, Healthcare IT Systems, Medical and Wellness Technology businesses as well as Healthcare and Wellness services. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How the ŌURA ring identifies deep sleep, REM sleep, light sleep, and periods of wakefulness, and how accurate this data is compared to actual sleep lab measurements... -Why the ŌURA ring is designed to allow you to completely disable the bluetooth function, and why the ring is specifically designed to not constantly transmit a signal (very important if you are concerned about electrical pollution)... -The infrared measurement used to analyze HRV, and why it is just as accurate at measuring HRV as wearing a chest strap... -How the Readiness Score you get from the ŌURA ring helps you identify days that are ideal for challenging yourself, and those that are better for taking it easy... -How something called your interbeat interval and pulse waveform can be used to accurately calculate your respiration rate... -The important data that you can collect about your body using the built-in accelerometer inside the ring... -How the ŌURA measures temperature, and what kind of health information you can discover by monitoring your body's temperature... -Why the ring was designed to withstand extremes of environment and temperature, such as hot saunas, cold water, etc. -How you can use the ring to track daily consumption (caffeine, alcohol, sugar), sleep aids you might be trying (valerian, melatonin, acupuncture) or other factors in your environment (barometric pressure, CO2, pollen count) using something called the Curious platform... -And much more! Do you have questions, comments or feedback about the Oura ring, the Premium podcast, or anything else we discuss in this episode? The Man Behind The Advanced Sleep Hacking Tactics Used By The World's Most Elite Athletes.
Meet Nick Littlehales. I first mentioned Nick back in podcast episode #326, in which I talked about a Guardian article entitled "The Man Who Showed Cristiano Ronaldo How To Sleep". That coach is Nick, and he is my guest on today's podcast. Nick has over 30 years experience in the world of sleep, sleeping habits, and product design and over 15 years dedicated to elite athletes and professional sport. His unique, passionate, techniques, products and proven approach are endorsed by leading professionals in world sport and business. During our discussion, you'll discover: -Hidden sources of light in places like hotel rooms that can massively disrupt sleep... -A hack to keep the air conditioner from drying out the air and inhibiting recovery while you sleep... -The best way to use natural light to awake, even if you're using black-out curtains and a sleep mask... -Exactly how to determine your ideal sleeping position based on whether you are right or left hand dominant... -Why Nick recommends strategies such as special filters placed over air-conditioning vents to remove allergens from the room and nasal strips to open airways and avoid mouth-breathing... -The exact number of 90 minute sleep cycles you need to try to achieve each week... -The best way to quantitatively measure your sleep using sleep monitoring systems... -And much more! Tai Lopez On Morning Routines, Laziness, Unschooling, Investing, Owning Nice Things & More.
Tai Lopez is an investor, partner, or advisor to over 20 multi-million dollar businesses. Through his book club and podcasts, Tai shares advice on how to achieve health, wealth, love, and happiness with 1.4 million people in 40 countries. At age 16, Tai realized that life was too complex to figure out on his own. So Tai wrote a letter to the wisest person he knew, his grandfather - a scientist - and asked for the answers to life’s hard questions. Tai was disappointed with his grandfather’s reply. There was no “secret formula.” The letter simply said, "Tai, the modern world is too complicated. You’ll never find all the answers from just one person. If you’re lucky, you’ll find a handful of people throughout your life who will point the way." But one week later his grandfather sent a package containing an old, dusty set of eleven books with a note, "Start by reading these." That began Tai’s habit of reading on his search for what he calls the "Good Life”: the balance of the four major pillars of life - health, wealth, love, and happiness. Over the years, Tai sought out the secrets to that “Good Life” by setting up his life as a series of experiments. He began by first reading thousands of books from the most impactful figures in history Freud, Aristotle, Gandhi, Charlie Munger, Sam Walton, Descartes, Darwin, Confucius, and countless others. He spent two-and-a-half years living with the Amish, spent time working at a leper colony in India, and helped Joel Salatin pioneer grass-fed, sustainable agriculture on Polyface Farms. He then joined the long list of entrepreneur college dropouts and ended up completely broke (sleeping on his mom’s couch) until he talked five, multi-millionaire entrepreneurs into mentoring him. Tai went on to become a Certified Financial Planner and worked in the world of finance before becoming a founder, investor, advisor, or mentor to more than 20 multi-million dollar businesses while settling in the Hollywood Hills. He appeared on various TV and radio shows, spoke at top global universities like The London Business School and the University of Southern California, and created one of the top downloaded podcasts and YouTube channels, called “The Grand Theory of Everything.” In order to get feedback from an even larger audience, Tai started what is now one of the world’s largest book clubs that reaches 1.4 million people in 40 countries with his "Book-Of-The-Day" free email newsletter. Tai recently summarized all he has learned from his mentors and compiled them into a series of ‘mentor shortcuts’ he calls, "The 67 Steps." He also created an alternative to the traditional business school. This "Millionaire Mentor program" program combines the best of self-learning with the best of a University degree without all the downsides of burdensome costs and inefficient methods. In this podcast episode with Tai, you'll discover: -Tai's take on morning routines, and the concept of "chunking your day"... -Which time of day is best to be lazy and take a break... -If Tai could invest in anything right now that would make people healthier or live longer, what he would invest in... -What kind of education Tai would give his kids if he had kids... -You drive a Lamborghini, live in the Hollywood Hills, have what appears to a comfortable life, etc. How do you give back? Do you ever feel "guilty" that you're not giving back enough? Want more of Tai? You can listen to Part 1 of this series here, in which Tai and I talk about multi-tasking, reprogramming your genetics and checking your e-mail less. You can listen to Part 2 here, in which Tai and I talk about how to know when you’re actually making enough money, and when you can stop focusing on income, start focusing more on life, love and happiness, and how to strike the ideal balance between being overambitious and underambitious. You can listen to Part 3 here, in which Tai and I discuss personal finances – particularly in the wake Tony Robbins is leaving with his new book “Money”, and how Tai feels we should protect and grow our wealth, and exactly what Tai’s personal investment philosophy is. Resources we discuss in this episode: -Tai’s retreats and public seminars in Hollywood, London and New York -Tai’s Millionaire Mentor program -Tai’s online video series: 67 Steps to Getting Anything You Want Out of Life Health, Wealth, Love, & Happiness -The Mindful Athlete book Do you have question, comments or feedback about what to do with your money? The #1 Appliance In Your Home That Churns Out Hidden Toxins, And What You Can Do About It.
If you read my recent article about how to biohack a sauna, then you've already heard of my friend Brett Bauer. Brett is a guy who I used to live with in college. When I used to hang out with him, he was a hard-partying guy who drove a fancy car and lived a fast lifestyle. But since then, he's had an amazing health journey that's taken him from alcoholism to fruitarianism to raw veganism to water detoxes to, finally, eating grass-fed beef and sweet potato fries with me and my family on our back porch. In my conversations with Brett, I've been blown away by his body of knowledge on everything from sauna detoxes to water filters to removing hidden toxins like mold and fungus from your home.
