John Coveyou: A Problem Solver's Pathway to Business Mastery

Serial entrepreneur John Coveyou talks with host Jason Shupp about starting, buying, operating and selling businesses.  John shares how a chaotic upbringing evolved into mindset changes and his belief that anything is truly possible.  We also get granular on the key areas that increase the value of a business.Previous to his life as an entrepreneur, John left home at the age of 16 and hopscotched from home to home, almost dropping out of high school after living out of his car. While still in high-school, John joined the Army at the age of 17 to add some stability and structure to his life. After just over 3 years on active duty as a Military Police officer, John decided to go back to school to finish his education, graduating from Washington University in St. Louis with a Master’s Degree in Energy, Environmental, and Chemical Engineering. After working for a few years as a Civil Engineer, he realized that his true passion was entrepreneurship. In 2012, John started building a science-based board game publishing company from the ground up. In 2019 he acquired a competing brand that grew his product line and revenues by 30% overnight. After struggling to find quality bookkeeping and financial professionals that actually understood the real issues faced by small business owners, John became a Certified Quickbooks Proadvisor and started helping dozens of companies clean up their financials, optimize their bookkeeping systems, and understand their financial statements and key metrics. After building out a management team at his businesses by implementing EOS, John decided to look for another business to buy. Being disappointed by the lack of professionalism he saw in the brokerage industry, he decided to partner with a few veteran business brokers to bring the world's largest business brokerage, Transworld Business Advisors, to St. Louis and the surrounding region.John is also an active member of the Entrepreneurs Organization and runs the EO Accelerators Program where he coaches a group of entrepreneurs and is the Chair of the Accelerator Board for the St. Louis region. To learn more, visit:linkedin.com/in/jason-Shupp-18b4619bListen to more episodes on Mission Matters:https://missionmatters.com/author/Jason-Shupp/
