Why You Should Think: Overcoming the Challenges and Benefits of Engaging in Critical Thought
Thinking can be difficult, emotionally challenging, and socially risky. However, it is important to question our presuppositions and engage in thinking to avoid acting on stupid and impractical ideas. Alfred North Whitehead suggests that thinking allows us to let go of inappropriate thoughts and prevent their manifestation. While engaging in contentious disagreement may be necessary to eliminate such ideas, it is important to be disagreeable and offensive only as much as required.
