The Relationship Between Progress, Shared Goals, Dopamine, and Entropy Reduction

Progress towards a valued goal leads to a dopamine hit because it decreases the entropy between the individual and the goal. Dopaminergic reward can be seen as a subset of entropy reduction. Living creatures are always fighting entropy by maintaining order. Movement forward towards a shared goal reduces entropy between individuals and fortifies belief in reliability. Entropy and free energy are extensive quantities and can be added together. Mutual predictability and resolution of uncertainty in conversations minimize free energy and disorder. This is consistent with the physics of self-organization. Shortening the path to predictiveness and uncertainty resolution can be a model for niche construction and cultural niche construction. Anxiety arises when uncertainty is not resolved as expected.
