It's important to balance curiosity with sharing about oneself in conversations. One should not just ask questions but also buffer them with statements about oneself, even if they don't relate to the other person's response. Sharing one's own experiences or lack thereof can alleviate the pressure of constant questioning and prevent the other person from feeling interrogated. When listening, it's crucial to ask questions to understand the other person rather than just to make a point. In conversations, there should be a balance between supportive turns (asking more about the other person's topic) and switching turns (sharing about oneself), with the suggested ratio being two thirds supporting and one third shifting responses.
