Cultivating a healthier attitude towards the opinions of others can start with reflecting on the character of those whose approval we seek. It is important to consider if these individuals are deserving of our respect and admiration, if they possess independent and inquisitive minds or if they are simply conformists. If someone does not impress us, there is no need to seek their approval. The thoughts and opinions of others should become a matter of indifference to us, as we come to realize the superficiality, futility, narrowness, and error in most people's thinking.
