Does Community & Religion Make You Happier?
Being part of a community and having social connections is important for happiness. Studies show that happy people prioritize time with friends and family and are more social overall. Even small social interactions with strangers can improve mood. However, these social ties were disrupted during the pandemic, impacting well-being. Religion also plays a role in happiness, not necessarily because of the beliefs, but because of the rituals and behaviors associated with religious practices. Going to church, being present, doing nice things for others, and participating in altruistic acts are the factors that contribute to happiness in religious individuals. Any cultural institution or community that encourages these behaviors can have a positive impact on happiness, not just religion. The important aspect is the ability to engage in these behaviors and establish social connections, which have a significant influence on overall happiness.
