One of the fundamental desires and needs of a human being is to be known and seen. This need arises because in moments of pain, struggle, and difficulty, when we are seen by others, we no longer feel alone. Society and the way we live often promote separation and hiding parts of ourselves, but deep healing comes from being seen. Desperation in pain can lead us to seek help and to be seen and held. Religion and a personal connection with God can provide that sense of being seen and known, but it is important to view God as a source of unconditional love and acceptance rather than judgment. When we are entirely seen and loved, including our shadows and flaws, our version of God or creativity can fill us up.
