Why VO2 Max Is So Important And How It Can Be Trained
VO2 max is highly correlated with the length of a person's life and is an amazing proxy for health. It measures the maximal consumption of oxygen and indicates the capacity to avoid illness. The ubiquity and ease of testing make it a valuable metric to track. A high VO2 max suggests regular exercise, which has numerous health benefits. Many people are unaware of their fitness levels, their VO2 max, or other important metrics like muscle mass and strength. To improve VO2 max, a training protocol should focus on widening the base through zone two training and raising the peak through high-intensity exercises.
