The Boundaries of Meditation and Mindfulness in Daily Life

There is no boundary between meditation or mindfulness and the rest of one's life. All you have is your mind in each moment and you're either suffering or not, lost in thought or not, clearly aware of what it's like to be you or not. Wisdom comes from recognizing this fluctuation. The practice is not separate from the rest of your day. Your life is your practice. Your entire life becomes a meditation, even though you have to do other things. Paying attention is how you make your mind and being in the world. Meditation is just a period in the day where you give yourself permission to solely pay attention. Your entire life becomes a practice of noticing thought as thought, noticing emotions and their connection to thought, and letting go of grasping and pushing away. Mindfulness is the non-judgmental willingness to feel both pleasant and unpleasant things. The real relief comes from recognizing that you are the mirror of awareness, and the beautiful and ugly things will keep coming.
