Practicing self love and compassion is essential in learning how to love someone else. By getting to know our own dark side and flaws, we become more understanding and compassionate towards our partner's flaws. When we are afraid of our own darkness, we become surprised and judgmental when we see it in others. However, if we have learned to deal with our own challenges and traumas with empathy and understanding, we can create space for our partners to do the same. Just as learning to play a sport allows us to understand the challenges others face in playing that sport, learning to love ourselves allows us to better understand and support our partners. Practicing self love and compassion helps us build stronger and more empathetic relationships with others.
