Eventbrite strives to keep their product simple while adding more functionality. They aim to avoid the cycle where users flock to a simple product, which then adds more features and causes users to move on to the next simple product. To prevent this, Eventbrite employs design hacks such as unbundling complex functionality over time, progressive disclosure to hide complex features until users have learned the critical ones, proactive training through video or phone calls, segmentation of experiences based on user types, and clean separation of interfaces for different levels of complexity. However, these approaches have not been very effective. Therefore, Eventbrite focuses on achieving perceived simplicity where advanced features are easily discoverable but effectively hidden if not sought after. This ensures that the majority of users who do not need advanced complexity can use the product without it becoming more difficult. Eventbrite looks up to WhatsApp as a company that has consistently done well in this aspect.
