How to Increase Dopamine Levels With Supplements

Compounds, both prescription and over-the-counter, can raise baseline levels of dopamine for an hour or more. Prescription drugs like ritalin, Adderall, modafinal, armodafinal, and over-the-counter amino acids like L-tyrosine can increase baseline dopamine levels. Macunipurines, a supplement similar to L-dopa, can also increase dopamine levels, but it primarily affects the peak and not the baseline. Prescription drugs for Parkinson's, like L-dopa and bromocryptine, can increase dopamine levels but often cause peaks and troughs. Recreational use of these drugs is not recommended and may result in a crash and negative effects on motivation.
