Exercise Snacks: Improving your health bite by bite

Research has found that short bursts of high-intensity exercise, known as exercise snacks, can lead to significant improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness and cognitive benefits. One study demonstrated that running up a flight of stairs for 20 seconds every four hours, repeated three times a week for six weeks, resulted in noticeable improvements in VO2 max and work productivity. Another study showed that performing a 20-second burst of exercise, such as jumping jacks or sprinting, following a high glycemic index meal can improve post-prandial glucose control and insulin levels. The specific timing and duration of exercise snacks can vary, but the key is to elevate the heart rate quickly and regularly throughout the day.
