How to Navigate Stress and Enjoy Life

Developing a mindfulness practice and cultivating awareness of what stresses you out, relaxes you, and delights you is valuable for navigating stress and enjoying life. Understanding how you navigate stress and the things you enjoy can help you develop tools to better manage stress. Awareness of the rise and fall of adrenaline can inform decisions about engaging in activities that increase adrenaline, such as deliberate cold exposure. The first wall of adrenaline, where you may not experience heightened stress but feel fatigue or resistance, can be a valuable learning experience. The level of discomfort, both physical and mental, during challenging activities can predict the pleasure wave experienced afterward. Cold water therapy has been found to increase dopamine levels, providing an antidepressant effect. Directed cold water therapy has also shown promise in helping individuals overcome addiction and depression. Modulating internal dopamine through cold water therapy can be a powerful and relatively safe method.
