Getting sunlight into your eyes every day increases daytime mood, focus, alertness, and improves nighttime sleep. Viewing morning sunlight positively affects metabolism. Sunlight in your eyes early in the day and in the evening is beneficial for mental health, physical health, and performance. Sunlight must be viewed directly and cannot be derived from screens or pictures. If sunlight is not accessible, using a sad lamp can provide some benefits but is not as effective. Being near bodies of water, especially moving bodies of water, has positive health benefits due to negative ionization. Technologies exist to create negative ionization indoors, but the effects are not as significant as spending time outdoors near water. Overall, there is strong evidence for the positive effects of sunlight and being in nature.
Welcome to a preview of the 10th Ask Me Anything (AMA) episode, part of Huberman Lab Premium.
The Huberman Lab Premium subscription was launched for two main reasons. First, it was launched in order to raise support for the standard Huberman Lab podcast channel — which will continue to come out every Monday at zero-cost. Second, it was launched as a means to raise funds for important scientific research. A significant portion of proceeds from the Huberman Lab Premium subscription will fund human research (not animal models) selected by Dr. Huberman, with a dollar-for-dollar match from the Tiny Foundation.
