The problem with knowledge capture is that experts often struggle to transfer their knowledge effectively because they skip important steps that are natural to them but crucial for learners. To address this, a backward approach is suggested, starting with understanding the specific problem that needs to be solved and identifying the mistakes people are currently making. Data-driven analysis is recommended to determine the frequency and impact of these mistakes. Understanding the reasons behind the mistakes is vital to develop effective training. One suggested method is to record experts explaining their work and have new hires watch the recording, asking questions and filling in missing information. The goal is to provide information when and how it is needed, rather than expecting people to memorize everything.
