Dr. Allen is the president of M David MI Inc. He is also a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers serving as the only US-based dentist. The concept and strategy of MI is centered around shared decision-making and person-centered communication.

Dr. Allen works with practices and dentists to help improve their communication skills to encourage and strengthen healthy patient relationships. Interviewing creates the opportunity for transparency and the journey to working closely with your patients to understand their concerns and needs to improve their oral health.

According to it's founders, William Miller and Stephen Rollnick, MI is a person-centered, guiding method of communication and counseling to elicit and strengthen motivation for change.  With an ever expanding evidence base showing great effectiveness in helping improve outcomes while managing chronic disease, health care professionals of many kinds have sought the style and spirit of MI in an effort to help patients get healthy.
