Headlines connecting a popular plant-based sweetener to cardiovascular issues have people panicking. A new study reported that elevated blood levels of erythritol, a plant-based zero-calorie sugar substitute, are linked to an increased risk of major cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke. There were a number of limitations to the study, and also nuances to understand about our body’s natural production of erythritol, which I outline in this week’s episode of FUELED.
