People get very upset with their partner when they have worked hard to change, but the partner weights all their behavior equally, including from longer ago before they started working on themselves. This episode discusses this phenomenon and how to rethink your partner's and your own change so that you can have a happier relationship! Note that a client taught me about the sliding window concept in computer science :) Included: why trauma memories have their own weighted coefficient, how to resolve empathic ruptures, and more!
From Mathworks.com: "The exponential weighting method has an infinite impulse response. The algorithm computes a set of weights, and applies these weights to the data samples recursively. As the age of the data increases, the magnitude of the weighting factor decreases exponentially and never reaches zero. In other words, the recent data has more influence on the statistic at the current sample than the older data.
