Everything begins to meld together. You don't know if you're coming or going. The memories fade more quickly, and soon you wonder what happened upon reflection.
Relationships require connection, especially marriages. You can't think hangin' out, makin' dinner, and cleanin' the house will improve your marriage, and it may work a little. Who doesn't want a clean home and a full tummy?
But what you and your spouse need are the firey moments, the ones that matter most (which you should remember.
True connection with your spouse comes when you savor the moments.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Savor the moments!This comes from all of your senses; see, smell, hear, taste, and touch (feel).
However, as easy as it sounds, captivating your senses can be challenging. It takes work to zone in on what matters to you and your spouse.
So when you savor the moments, you activate your senses. What are your senses going to remember?
- SEE. Look at the colors, the landscape, and the environment around you. Notice the clothes and expressions that pop for you.
- SMELL. What scents wake up your nose? What about the cologne/perfume? If you're eating at a restaurant or on the beach, what tingled your nose?
- HEAR. What do the crickets sing in the moonlight? Or are they? What song do you attach to the moment?
- TASTE. Here you can combine taste and texture for your mouth. So that can involve many areas. How did the food taste? What's your favorite dessert?
- TOUCH. How did you feel? What gave you those goosebumps?
And I want you to think about this. Not all senses you remember will be positive, and you may have some negative ones attached to the moment. But that's okay.
The key is committing to your spouse's presence to love deeper.
CHALLENGE: Look for an opportunity to activate your senses and practice that engagement. Maybe it's during your night of intimacy. Maybe it's at your child's wedding or game or dance recital.
CAUTION: Not all senses will be used when you savor the moments. But that doesn't mean you have to ignore the moment. Keep to the challenge and press forward.
CHEER: Be excited about activating your senses.
Life is too short to fuss over what really doesn't matter. This is your life. Make it count with your spouse.
