Kyle Welch on the Value of Whistleblowers

Kyle Welch is an assistant professor of accountancy at The George Washington University. He’s also a published academic researcher studying internal whistleblowing: the practice of employees reporting suspected illegal activity or misconduct up the chain of command. In this episode of SHRM’s All Things Work podcast, host Tony Lee learns firsthand what Kyle discovered after analyzing over 2 million reports. (Spoiler alert, the results are pretty counterintuitive.) They also discuss Kyle’s findings regarding the #MeToo movement’s impact on employees feeling more emboldened to report improper behavior at work.
