In this episode, I sit down with my great friend and my former business partner with Coaches Corner U, Tony Montgomery to discuss his research in psychology, human behaviour and how that impacts the coaching process.
Tony is a 3rd year PhD in the department of kinesiology, applied health, and recreation at Oklahoma State University. His primary research interests are in utilizing exercise and psychological interventions such as cognitive reappraisal and growth mindset to improve mood states, motivation, and exercise adherence in populations with mood disorders. Outside of research, he enjoys exercising, backpacking, and writing poetry.
We discuss:
Starting a podcast to provide an alternate narrative.
Seeking to understand human behavior has your coaching approach changed as you learn more about psychology and neuroscience?
It's more than just inputs and outputs when it comes to stimulus and adaptations.
Diving deeper into check-ins to elicit the feedback you want and need
Understanding how personality plays into the coaching relationship
Using psychology to leverage training and nutrition into personal growth
Exercise to regulate emotions
Influencing the stress appraisal response
Coaching relationship building, and research to back it up.
Can we leverage social media in a positive way to impact outcomes?
