Listen as Dr. Patrick Kochanek, outlines new developments appearing in the 3rd edition of “Guidelines for the Management of Severe Traumatic Brain Injury in Children”. He covers revisions made to level II and level III treatment recommendations, and how they translate across the companion algorithm. He focuses on neuroimaging, hyperosmolar therapy, analgesics and sedatives, seizure prophylaxis, temperature control/hypothermia, and nutrition. In addition, he highlights the new consensus and evidence based algorithm article that accompanies the new guidelines, for use at the bedside. After listening participants should be able to:
•Describe various treatment methods for a range of traumatic brain injury scenarios
•Feel comfortable integrating these evidence-based recommendations into their own practice
•Understand the changes between the 2nd and 3rd edition of the guidelines
•Navigate both the “Guidelines for the Management of Pediatric Severe Traumatic Brain Injury” and the accompanying algorithm
