Here are some questions every trainer and coach should be asking themselves:

  • What are the pros and cons to the different levels of strength and conditioning?
  • As a strength coach, how do you find a work-life balance?
  • And perhaps most importantly, how do you know what you’re REALLY worth?

Well if you’ve ever pondered any of these questions before, you’re going to love today’s interview with Scott Charland!

Scott currently serves as the Manager of Human Performance for Parkview Sports Medicine in Fort Wayne, IN.  In this role, he oversees 21 strength and conditioning coaches from the High School, Collegiate, and private sector.

And prior to his current position, Charland was a collegiate strength and conditioning coach for 20 years where he led the Olympic Strength and Conditioning departments at Saint Louis University, Temple University and Butler University.

In this episode, we dive in and get real about what life in strength and conditioning is like.

Whether it’s determining what level you want to coach at, how to get paid what you’re worth, or simply to find better balance between work and play, I know everyone listening is going to love this episode.

Let’s do this!

Can every high school in the country have a strength coach that’s qualified? Are we going to be able to add 5,000 jobs in the next 10 years to fill them with quality coaches? – Scott Charland

This Week on the Physical Prep Podcast:

  • Scott’s background and how he got started in strength and conditioning.
  • His long and winding career arc, and what his current gig at Parkview Sports Medicine looks like.
  • What are the pros – and cons – of high school, collegiate, and private strength and conditioning?
  • What does the future of strength and conditioning look like? And will we have enough qualified coaches?
  • How much are you REALLY worth as a strength coach? The answer might surprise you.
  • The importance of transparency in wages, and how doing this can help make sure everyone is getting paid.
  • How to negotiate for yourself, and why it’s imperative you don’t let employers push you around.
  • Why 5-10% may mean NOTHING to an employer and everything to you.
  • The power of networking and growing your inner circle.
  • Thoughts on how to achieve some semblance of work/life balance.
  • And last but not least, the BIG question and lightning rounds!
