Government's Initiative Against Digital Sex Crimes

The South Korean government is intensifying efforts to combat an alarming rise in digital sex crimes, notably those involving deep-fake technology. Education Minister Lee Joo-ho announced the establishment of an emergency task force to handle incidents in schools, emphasizing the need for psychological support for victims. Disturbingly, recent police data revealed that nearly 60% of victims of deepfake porn over the past three years were minors, with cases involving underage perpetrators also on the rise. The government aims to introduce legislation that would criminalize the possession, purchase, and viewing of deepfake materials, aiming for a comprehensive strategy by October.
