Awareness: Recognising the situation and our part in it for what it is. Recognising that the trigger ‘out there’ and our feeling in here don’t have a direct connection, our feelings are created by our thoughts.

Responsibility: our ability to respond. Which means that no matter the circumstances, the triggers, the past and how we’ve always done things, once we have awareness we can respond in all kinds of ways.

Choice: Now we’re aware of what’s going on and recognise our ability to respond in many different ways, we get the opportunity to make a choice: “What actions and behaviours will move me towards where I want to be?”
