Before You Kill Yourself: a suicide prevention podcast. Gabe Howard: God or Garbage - learning how to manage bipolar disorder
Gabe Howard joins us to discuss managing his suicidal ideations, struggling with substance abuse, divorce and wanting to feel like he matters.
BIOGRAPHY: Gabe is host of the popular Inside Mental Health and Inside Bipolar podcasts (from Healthline Media - the world's largest health site). Everyone from Dr. Phil to Alanis Morissette to Jennette McCurdy has been interviewed by Gabe, who lives with bipolar and anxiety disorders, and has been successfully managing these conditions for twenty years. He is the only person living with serious and persistent mental illness to host a top award-winning podcast for a major media company.
Gabe was diagnosed 20 years ago, at a time in his life when he was also battling substance abuse, obesity, and ideations of suicide. As he explains in this clip, Gabe had had suicidal thoughts since he was a young child; he nearly carried it out in his 20s but was saved by a friend who took him to a clinic instead. Thankfully, Gabe made it from rock bottom to living and managing his conditions while working as a top rated podcast host and public speaker.
