What is a Good podcast Title?
In this episode, Aaron and Kane talk about how and why your title, systems and analytics are so important in building the success of your podcast. They also discuss engagement, audience, monetising your podcast and deliver some great hints and tips throughout.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- You need to ensure you get the balance right between having a niche and being too general. You need to differentiate yourself in some way, it can be a good idea to start very niche and then spread your net wider as you grow.
- Your title should incorporate what industry/category you are in but should be ‘niched down’. Meaning you should never just call yourself ‘The Marketing Podcast’ but concentrate on your specific audience and reflect that in your title too.
- You can treat collaborations like a marketing campaigns. Think about how you and your brand can fit within other podcasts and then collaborate with them with this in mind.
- Engagement is more important that download numbers. An engaged audience is a superior audience; they either like what you are doing or are looking for more of what you are doing.
- You don’t have to be too clever with your name. It’s important that your title is descriptive and informative.
- Be consistent with your publishing schedule. It’s better to start with less episodes than you think you will manage to produce, being consistent is more important than having more content. Missing episodes means you lose listeners. Try and have a bank of episodes and be ahead so you can deal with any unforeseen circumstances.
- When you first start podcasting, don’t look at your analytics for the first six months. Then when you do, bear in mind podcasting is very different to platforms such as YouTube, it will be smaller numbers it's a different game altogether.
- Audience interaction information can be a lot more useful and insightful than just analytics data. Analytics data can be useful in helping guide decisions but it shouldn't be the only thing you use and rely on.
