Dr. Cate Shanahan is the NYT best-selling author of the book Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food and a pioneer of the ancestral health movement. Dr. Cate is also a doctor of Family Medicine with degrees in physics and biochemistry from Rutgers and Cornell. Her wealth of knowledge and experience lends her a unique perspective on the world of nutrition. As she began her career in Family Medicine, Dr. Cate quickly realized that the solutions she was providing her patients tended to ignore the root cause of the problem. Her realization led her to write her book, which focuses on the four pillars of human health as displayed by the healthiest civilizations on Earth, emphasizing the need for fresh food, fermented and sprouted food, meat cooked to the bone, and organ meats. In our conversation with Dr. Cate, we discuss her philosophy around nutrition and her exploration into the world of chronic diseases stemming from poor diets based in toxic seed oils and processed sugars. We covered a lot of ground and discussed some amazing topics from seed oils to optimizing your genes through proper nutrition. Enjoy!
Dr. Cate has appeared on other great podcasts with Saifedean Ammous, David Perlmutter, and Megyn Kelly with Mark Sisson.
