The Myth of "The One" is Holding You Back When Dating

From my book, "Everything I Wish I Knew When I Was 18": The problem with believing that there is just one right person for us, and that she will magically show herself one day, is that this is one of the biggest self-limiting beliefs you can succumb to. I’m going to get into self-limiting beliefs a little later in this chapter, but for now let me just say it is something you believe in strongly, however instead of propelling you forward it holds you back. You’ll start looking at every woman who has the slightest bit of interest in you as your possible “one” and that will keep you from seeing all of the other potential better options that are available to you. What you’ll inevitably do is try to make this girl you think is your soulmate fit into this imaginary mold in your mind. You’ll overlook her red flags and try to rationalize to yourself reasons you can work with all of her problems.
