Deep dives
Haunted house on West 10th Street
There is a building on West 10th Street in Greenwich Village known as the House of Death. It acquired this name due to its dark history and reported hauntings. The building has been said to be inhabited by over 20 spirits, including the ghost of Mark Twain. In the 1930s, a mother and daughter claimed to have seen the ghost of Mark Twain dressed in white, who introduced himself as Samuel and disappeared. Other reports mention strange lights, sounds, and drafts in the building. It remains a place of intrigue for those interested in the supernatural.
Ghosts in Washington Square Park
Washington Square Park, a famous location in New York City, holds a haunting past. The park was originally a burial ground, known as a potter's field, where victims of the yellow fever epidemic were laid to rest. Some bodies still remain under the park, causing eerie situations. Hangings also occurred in the park, and there is a tree known as the Hangman's Elm, where public hangings took place. Law students have claimed to see the ghost of Aaron Burr, who once lived nearby, roaming around the building.
Ghostly encounters in New York City
New York City, with its long history, is home to numerous haunted locations. Many old buildings hold the remnants of past generations, often associated with crimes and tragic events. Ghost sightings and paranormal experiences are not uncommon in the city. While specific examples mentioned in the podcast include the House of Death and Washington Square Park, it is likely that many buildings in New York harbor their own dark pasts and stories of supernatural encounters.
