Nate shares how one player on his team went from letting nerves get to her to helping the team win the state championship with her at the free throw line.
How do you get your athletes to become self-aware of their responses to their mistakes?
- Ask them to write down how you think teammates, coaches, parents, and people in the stands will respond to the mistakes you make in a game.
- Ask them to write about which category’s thoughts would affect them the most.
- Discuss how as a team, you can help each player through their mistakes.
When someone makes a mistake, it is a race to go to them and reinforce that you still trust them and believe in them as a teammate.
Cut out saying, “my bad” to help stop the negative self-talk.
We'd love to hear from you!
