The Miriam: A Hermetic Chain-Based Healing Tradition
The Miriam is a hermetic chain-based healing tradition that was founded by Giuliano Cremertz in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The practice combines hermetic, magical, and Pythagorean principles to harness the power of the psyche and channel collective energies for therapeutic purposes and distance healing. The Miriam is structured as a hierarchy with five grades, from novice to master, and practitioners wear red robes during daily rituals. The healing process involves the pooling of energy from individuals with magnetic qualities, which is then directed towards the divine Miriam, a state of purity, for the benefit of those in need. The Miriam emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive assessment of the patient's physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies to determine the appropriate therapies. The practice incorporates rituals, talismans, and charms as tools for healing, and seeks to work in conjunction with conventional medicine rather than as a replacement. The tradition envisions the establishment of centers throughout Italy and Europe to provide alternative therapies and complements to conventional treatments.
The Concept of Collective Suffering and Revulsion
A notable concept discussed in the podcast is the idea that collective suffering and trauma can accumulate and have long-lasting effects. According to Cremert's, the energy generated by mass suffering does not dissipate but remains as a heavy and textured force in the cosmic realm. This pooling of suffering can shape societal changes and periods of revulsion against the existing order. The examples of World War I and II are cited, as the immense suffering during these times contributed to the societal changes that occurred 15 years after each war. This concept suggests that deep and collective suffering has a lasting impact on societies, and that there may be unseen energetic connections between historical events and their aftermath. While not explicitly stated, the podcast raises interesting questions about the potential interconnectedness of human experiences and the influence of energetic forces on societal dynamics.
The Relationship between Hermetic Healing and Conventional Medicine
Cremert's emphasized the importance of integrating hermetic healing practices with conventional medicine. The tradition of the Miriam aims to work in conjunction with traditional medical therapies, providing complementary treatments to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of a person's health. The Miriam seeks to enhance the healing process by tapping into hermetic energies and utilizing rituals, talismans, and charms to deliver targeted and personalized therapies. Cremert's rejected the notion of relying solely on intuition, emphasizing the need for empirical evidence and a cause-and-effect approach to healing. This approach challenges the idea of a one-size-fits-all solution and recognizes the complexity of healthcare, advocating for a holistic and integrative model that combines different methodologies and perspectives.
Cremert's and the Miriam within the Context of Occult and Healing Traditions
Within the context of occult and healing traditions, Cremert's and the Miriam present a unique and comprehensive approach. Cremert's drew upon diverse influences, including hermeticism, divine magic, alchemy, and psychophysical healing practices. He established the Miriam as a hermetic chain and envisioned the establishment of centers throughout Italy and Europe. While Cremert's work remains obscure to English readers, his ideas and practices demonstrate a rich understanding of hermetic principles and their practical application in the realm of healing. The Miriam stands as an example of a coherent system that incorporates rituals, spirituality, and practical therapeutics, grounded in the concepts of interconnectedness, energetic manipulation, and the pursuit of a state of purity. The comprehensive study conducted by David Pantano and Marco Daffy sheds light on Cremert's life and work, providing valuable insights into this little-known hermetic tradition.
For episode #1 of season 2 we are joined by author and translator David Pantano to discuss the recent publication ‘The Hermetic Physican’ on Giuliano Kremmerz. Giuliano Kremmerz (1861–1930), born Ciro Formisano, was one of the most influential Italian occultists, alchemists, and hermetic masters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, though he remains almost unknown to English readers.
In 1896, Kremmerz began writing about natural and divine magic, healing, and alchemy through the journal Il Mondo Secreto (The Secret World). At the same time, he founded a school known as the Schola Philosophica Hermetica Classica Italica as well as a magical group, the Therapeutic and Magical Fraternity of Myriam. Within the Myriam, he sought to use hermetic, magical, andPythagorean principles to harness the power of the psyche and convey collective energies for therapeutic purposes and distance healing. His initiatic order would become the principal esoteric society in Italy—comparable to its British counterpart, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn—but forced to be a carefully guarded secret as Mussolini’s government rose to power.
In this unique compilation of essays, David presents an in-depth study of Kremmerz’s life and work by his student and initiate, Italian esotericist Marco Daffi. Throughout this collection, David Pantano provides extensive annotations, offering the English reader essential historical and mystical context for Daffi’s work. Connecting to untranslated Italian texts and elucidating Daffi’s poetic style, Pantano’s commentary reveals the unique tradition of Italian esoterism.
In the Plus show we discuss the Fraternity of Myriam today, and its current state. Further to that David talks about how the adepts of the order would work with the Aeon entities. And we unpack what the Aeon spirits are? We then go on to discuss he charms used in the order to engage with the Aeon spirits
