Jim Rutter has competed in weightlifting since 2000 and coached since 2010, achieving the rank of International Coach for USA Weightlifting. He worked as a journalist in Philadelphia since 2006, writing mostly for the Philadelphia Inquirer. In 2009, he received a journalism fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
He owns and serves as head coach for Philadelphia Barbell Club, which has produced over 20 National or International medalists since 2017.
