As Advisors, we all know that taxes play an integral role in our client’s financial picture. AND, we know that that clients EXPECT their financial advisor to be able to help with taxes.
Why?
Because:
1) Most clients really don’t understand their return AT ALL,
2) They have never received real advice related to taxes, and
3) Everything we do as Advisors impacts them tax-wise either now or in the future.
I know for me, this was a HUGE area of planning that really differentiated us from every other planning firm in town. But, I know when I started my business I had NO CLUE how to add REAL value to clients – especially W2 clients. I would get their return and then not really know what to do with it from there. Even as my tax knowledge evolved, I was always worried that I didn’t know what I didn’t know. And then there were pesky compliance concerns!
