Deep dives
The Cost of Discipleship
Following Jesus requires a high cost of discipleship. It is not just about saying a prayer or attending church, but about fully surrendering our lives to Him. Jesus calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him. We must be willing to lose our lives for His sake and be all in, even if it means letting go of our own desires and comfort. Being a disciple of Jesus means putting Him above everything else and being willing to endure trials and hardships for His sake.
The Quiet Places
Our relationship with Jesus is not just about outward appearances or religious activities. It's about what happens in the quiet places, when no one is watching. We need to be men who seek the Lord in the secret place, where we wrestle with Him, cry out to Him, and allow Him to expose the darkness within us. It is in these quiet moments that we truly experience transformation and intimacy with God. We must be willing to let go of our own agendas, pride, and selfishness, and fully submit ourselves to His will.
The Annoying Grace of God
God's grace can sometimes be annoying, as it disrupts our comfortable lives and challenges us to go deeper in our faith. He doesn't settle for surface-level Christianity, but constantly pushes us to examine our hearts and motives. We may feel annoyed or frustrated when God stirs something within us, asking if we are truly all in. However, it is in these moments that we need to humbly surrender and allow Him to work in us, even if it means questioning our own faith and commitment.
The Continuous Call
Being a follower of Jesus is not a one-time decision, but a continuous call to surrender and follow Him. Just as Peter was asked by Jesus if he still wanted to go, we too must constantly reassess our commitment to Christ. It is not enough to rely on past experiences or accomplishments. Jesus calls us to be all in, every day, and to count the cost of discipleship. We must evaluate our hearts, examine our motives, and be willing to let go of anything that hinders our relationship with Him.
In this week's episode, we dive deep into the story of Jesus and Peter from John 6:67-69. Just imagine, after walking beside Jesus for over a year, Peter is posed with a profound question: Does he want to continue being Jesus' disciple? It might seem perturbing, even annoying, for Peter to face such an inquiry. But isn’t that just like Christ? No matter how long we've journeyed with Him, He persistently checks our commitment, ensuring our hearts remain aligned with His purpose. This episode challenges every man to introspectively ask, "Am I still in?" and to ponder those pressing questions God might be "annoying" you with. Are you prepared to answer?
