I just played myself today. Well, my ego did.

For months I have truly enjoyed buying my stepdaughters flowers and putting them by their bedside. On the weeks when the girls are with us and I go to the local store and see the flowers, I can't help but think, "hmm, which ones would they love?" They have never asked for the flowers, it's simply a gesture from my heart to theirs.

Today my ego stepped in and hijacked my heart's intention, disguising itself as being of service to the girls. I didn't buy them flowers to see if they'd notice. If they did notice and said, "hey Kitty, where are our flowers?", my response would have been, "well, wouldn't it be nice to appreciate the flowers when they're there rather than when they're not?"

Yep, I made this all up in my head and had their response and my response ready to go. After getting home I realised, this was a bullshit trap that took me away from my original intention and focusing on a petty lesson they didn't even ask for.
