Life takes a ton of energy. And when you have a family, at the end of the day, you just get tired. It's easier to not ruffle feathers and go with the flow.
But unfortunately, that leads to more problems down the road.
With so much readily available to kids regardless of age, you have to stand guard at the gate.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Stand guard at the gate!You must become the gatekeeper of your home.
Now, believe it or not, most parents say they are the gatekeeper already. However, when you begin to ask questions and dive deeper, you find that the kids are running the house rather than the parents.
So mom (and dad), it's time to stand guard at the gate.
- Set boundaries and keep them. You can't say one thing and do another. Yes, it's easier to go with the flow. But you have to be willing to put up the fight in order to protect your child.
- As much as you want life to be easy without unnecessary conflict, you still must listen with an open mind. Judgments on your kids can really cause some major discrepancies in the long run. Get to know who your child is becoming and then proceed with what needs to happen within the situation or circumstance.
- Love more than you like. When you love, it comes with no conditions. But when you like, you have conditions. As parents, you are to love unconditional and then set your standards.
Remember, your child will rise to the ceiling you set. So raise the ceiling and your child will rise, too.
Stand guard at the gate and watch your child thrive.
