S2, E4: Living and Working with Borderline Personality Disorder (with Maria Estrada)
This week on The Revolutionized Mind, we are joined by Maria Estrada! Maria is a Mental Health Advocate, Public Speaker, Program Manager, and Child & Youth Counsellor. In this episode, she tells us all about her mental health journey as she navigated immigration as a young child, instability in her day-to-day life, and a lack of healthy relationships. Maria has been diagnosed with Depression, Anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and Bipolar Disorder, and she explains that each diagnosis has felt like a puzzle piece that was missing in her life. Focusing on BPD, she shares some facts about the mental illness, some of her own lived experiences, and some of her professional experiences working with people who have BPD. Maria emphasizes the importance of learning to sit with your emotions, cope with distress, and practice self-compassion. She knows what it feels like to live with this mental illness and she does everything she can to support those who need it. This conversation is real, inspiring, and empowering, and I truly hope you love it!
