187. How To Reset Your Metabolism, What's The Best Intermittent Fast? How To Optimize Fasting Through The Endocannabinoid System - Dr. T Dalton Combs
I've got Dr. T Dalton Combs, the Co-Founder and CEO of Temper, a company devoted to getting people metabolically fit. Dr. Combs has a PhD in Neuroscience, and learned two big important things that changed all of that. The first was that when you eat has as much of an impact on your metabolic fitness as what and how much you eat.
The second was the powerful effect cannabinoids have on our appetite. Dr. Combs knew THC could powerfully increase appetite from seeing how it helped his wife (then girlfriend) through chemo. But I had no idea that other cannabinoids could reduce appetite -- that was only known by the few neuroscientists researching them.
He began exploring for himself, initially in the library, and later in my kitchen, what compilation of cannabinoids and phytocompounds could make fasting as easy as possible. He wanted to be indestructible while fasting, but when it’s time to eat, to be hungry enough to enjoy food and the satisfaction it can bring. After years of tinkering, he'd arrived at the prototype for Citravarin.
In this episode we get into:
- How applied neuroscience + AI makes it possible for people to reprogram their own behavior.
- What is my metabolism, really? And why should I want to 'reset' it?
- The connection between behaviors and metabolic fitness.
- How to measure metabolic fitness and why it matters.
- What is web3 and how will it affect us in the biohacking community?
