What is Block and Replace Therapy?
Most endocrinologists recommend antithyroid medication such as methimazole, propylthiouracil (PTU), or carbimazole for patients with hyperthyroidism.
Unfortunately for some, this results in such a reduction of thyroid levels that they become extremely hypothyroid.
Today I’m sharing what you need to know about block and replace therapy, the cases where it’s most useful, and some key considerations for this treatment.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- How anti-thyroid medications work
- Symptoms of hypothyroidism
- TSH levels in hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism
- The goal of block and replace therapy
- When block and replace therapy is most beneficial
As always, I hope you found this episode valuable, and I look forward to catching you in the next episode!
