How To Lower Thyroid Antibodies Part 6: Healing The Gut

Lowering or normalizing thyroid antibodies is not always easy, but it is very possible.Healing the gut is essential in lowering and eventually normalizing the thyroid antibodies associated with Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. With most of the immune system cells located in the gut, a healthy gut is directly correlated to a healthy immune system. In addition, as part of the Triad of Autoimmunity, we know that increased intestinal permeability, or leaky gut, is a key factor in developing autoimmune conditions such as Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis.Today, in the sixth and final part of my series on lowering and normalizing thyroid antibodies, I’m discussing the crucial link between gut health and thyroid antibodies. I’m talking about how the gut impacts autoimmune thyroid conditions, the concept of leaky gut, the 5R protocol for gut healing, strategies for supporting gut health, my approach to testing, and more. How To Lower Thyroid Antibodies Part 5: The Role of Infections

Numerous studies suggest that viruses, bacteria, and other microbes can contribute to the development of autoimmune conditions. However, much like environmental toxins, infections are often an overlooked factor that can make it challenging to reverse the autoimmune component of Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s.Sometimes, these infections can be present without the person experiencing overt symptoms, increasing the potential for misdiagnosis. When left unchecked, these microbes can trigger the immune system through different mechanisms, causing an autoimmune response.Today, in part five of my series on lowering and normalizing thyroid antibodies, I’m discussing the link between infections and autoimmune thyroid conditions. I talk about the significance of recognizing hidden infections, when to consider testing and retesting, natural treatment approaches for addressing infections, the value of working with a practitioner, and more. Appetite Changes and Thyroid Health

While there are exceptions, it’s very common for people with hyperthyroidism to experience an increase in appetite. When I dealt with Graves’ disease, I had a voracious appetite. On the other hand, those with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s tend to experience a reduced appetite.A number of factors impact appetite regulation and hunger cues, and thyroid health plays a big role. Today, I’m sharing why thyroid hormones matter when it comes to appetite and satiety and why it’s essential to address the underlying causes rather than focus on symptoms. In this episode, you’ll learn about:- Leptin's role in satiety and ghrelin's role in stimulating hunger- Insulin's interaction with brain receptors- How thyroid hormones influence appetite and mood- Why chronic inflammation in autoimmune conditions can dampen appetite- Other common causes of appetite changes- How addressing nutrient deficiencies can help to normalize appetite- Strategies for addressing thyroid hormone imbalancesAs always, I hope you find this episode valuable, and I look forward to catching you in the next episode! To learn more, visit the show notes at https://savemythyroid.com/podcast/appetite-changes-and-thyroid-health/appetite-changes-and-thyroid-health/.To register for the Healthy Gut Healthy Thyroid Bootcamp visit www.savemythyroid.com/healthygut Do You Want Help Saving Your Thyroid? Pregnancy and Graves’ Disease (Save My Thyroid Audit)

“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought this child was doomed to the same condition and horrible experiences that I had. But I realize it's not always the case.” - KatyGraves' disease can be a particularly challenging condition to manage during pregnancy. The hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy can exacerbate symptoms of Graves' disease, such as anxiety, fatigue, and palpitations, and a delicate balance is required to maintain both maternal and fetal health. In today’s Save My Thyroid audit, I’m talking to Katy, who was diagnosed with Graves' disease just two days before discovering she was pregnant. In this episode, Katy and I discuss her diagnosis, initial fears about taking medication, the importance of consistent monitoring, the health of her baby, the significance of gut health, reducing toxic exposure, maintaining a balanced diet, and more. While this isn’t the same as my comprehensive consultations with patients, I’m confident you’ll find this conversation valuable. How To Lower Thyroid Antibodies Part 4: The Role of Environmental Toxicants

Environmental toxins (natural) and toxicants (synthetic) are a huge problem in modern living. Every day, we’re bombarded by these external factors, and in most cases, our immune systems can mitigate the toxic burden. For various reasons, many of us lose our chemical tolerance over time, and our bodies can no longer handle the toxin exposure. That’s when environmental toxins may trigger thyroid autoimmunity and lead to the formation of thyroid antibodies.Today, in part four of my series on lowering and normalizing thyroid antibodies, I’m discussing the impact of environmental toxins and toxicants on thyroid antibodies and what you can do to reduce your toxic burden. I talk about the differences between toxins and toxicants, mechanisms of thyroid autoimmunity, practical detoxification strategies, the role of supplementation, the need for thyroid antibody testing, and more. Low White Blood Cells and Thyroid Health

Low white blood cell count, also known as leukopenia, is a common finding in many people, including those with thyroid and autoimmune thyroid conditions. There are five types of white blood cells - neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils - and these markers are part of a complete blood count (CBC) with differential, which I recommend for all my patients. While a low white blood cell count alone does not necessarily raise a red flag, it’s essential to determine the underlying cause, as many of these factors can trigger thyroid conditions. Today, I’m discussing the connection between low white blood cells and thyroid health, how you can support your immune health, and when to be concerned about low white blood cell counts. In this episode, you’ll learn about:- How white blood cell counts are assessed and their significance- Risks associated with low white blood cell counts- Common causes of low white blood cells- Neutropenia and its relationship with infections- When to be concerned about low white blood cell counts- The relationship between low white blood cells and thyroid health- The importance of identifying and addressing underlying causes- Supplements and herbs for immune supportAs always, I hope you find this episode valuable, and I look forward to catching you in the next episode! To learn more, visit the show notes at https://savemythyroid.com/podcast/low-white-blood-cells-and-thyroid-health/.To register for the Healthy Gut Healthy Thyroid Bootcamp visit www.savemythyroid.com/healthygut Do You Want Help Saving Your Thyroid?
