Episode notes
Start On A Wall For Muscle Memory
- Practice the two-handed backhand first by choking up with your off-hand and hitting controlled dinks against a wall.
- Build to 50 reps, then add spin by brushing from 7 o'clock to 1 o'clock while keeping arms straight and using your knees to lift.
Brush Low-To-High For Topspin
- Introduce topspin by brushing the back and outside of the ball with a 7-to-1 clock swing while keeping the paddle tip down.
- Use leg drive (bend knees and lift) so the ball spins forward and returns to you like a boxer’s speed bag.
Progress To Partner Diagonal Dinks
- Progress to diagonal dinks with a partner: righty on the left side dinking crosscourt to the opponent's left side.
- Keep arms straight, get behind the ball, and aim for 25 controlled exchanges before adding your regular hand.
