Postgraduate students facing challenges with university accommodation

Many universities in China are reconsidering the provision of on-campus accommodation for postgraduate students, leading to concerns and debates. Previously, universities offered affordable dormitory options to postgraduate students, but now, due to the expansion of college enrollment and the inability of schools to accommodate the growing number of students, some universities are considering not providing boarding to certain postgraduate students. This has caused frustration among students who have to compete for low-cost dormitory spaces through lottery systems. A survey revealed that numerous prestigious universities, including Tsinghua University and Peking University, no longer offer dormitories for non-full-time professional master's students. To address this issue, some universities are providing transportation subsidies for students living off-campus, but some postgraduate students argue that they would prefer to live on campus. This has led to concerns about the impact on postgraduate enrollment decisions and the potential financial burden for students seeking off-campus accommodations.
