Ep 358 – Changing the Experience of Illness with Cal Cates and Kerry Jordan
In this episode of The ABMP Podcast, Kristin and Darren are joined by Cal Cates and Kerry Jordan from Healwell to discuss their research study, Massage Therapy for Hospitalized Patients Receiving Palliative Care: A Randomized Clinical Trial, what the objective of the study was, the methods used, and the surprising results that were found.
Cal is an educator, writer, and speaker on topics ranging from massage therapy in a hospital setting to end of life care and massage therapy policy and regulation. Cal is the current executive director and founder of Healwell, a non-profit organization that works with children in hospitals and clinical facilities.

As Healwell’s Operations Director, Kerry coordinates strategy, communications and logistics for Healwell’s education and service programs. She leads Healwell’s development and fundraising activities and interfaces with the finance teams at Healwell’s partner facilities.
In addition to her duties as Operations Director, Kerry provides massage therapy and teaches in hospitals and clinical settings throughout the Washington, DC metro area and around the world for adult and pediatric palliative care patients and other patients with complex needs and high symptom burden.
